Bodegas Itsas Mendi (the name is Basque for "Sea and Mountain") is an estate of 67.5 acres first planted in 1989. It is located in the Basque DO of Bizkaiko Txakolina overlooking the Bay of Biscay, not far from the city of Bilbao. The unusual white wine they produce is from the native variety Hondarrabi Zuri, farmed by a small group of partners who own the extraordinarily beautiful land, and made by Ana Martin one of Spain's foremost enologists. The wines are regularly highly rated in both Spanish & International press.

The Itsas Mendi winery was founded in 1995 in Muskiz, a town in former centuries renowned for its rich Txakoli white wine-producing tradition. In 2002, due to the gradual increase of the vineyards, the winery moved to Gernika, a privileged spot sited in the Urdaibai Reserve of the Biosphere. This new winery has state of the art technology for white-wine production. 

The main grape is the Hondarribi-Zuri which is an Atlantic variety and therefore it is completely acclimatised to the ecophysiological features of Bizkaia. This strong autochthonous variety has given the wines their complex character, bearing an original product with its own personality. Hondarribi also blends well with Riesling to produce aromatic whites with good structure and complexity.
