Abruzzo is in central Italy and is situated to the east of Rome. The region is essentially hilly ans mountainous and stretches from the Apennines to the Adriatic sea. The climate is varied; warm and dry on the coast and an Alpine climate in the mountainous interior.

The Majella National Park here is 190 square miles where rare examples of Mediterranean flora and fauna survives (chamois, wolves, bears, golden eagles).

Wine wise, Abruzzo is best known for the red Montepulciono d'Abruzzo and white Trebbiano d'Abruzzo. Both types of wine deserve more widespread recognition.
